Snap-8 (Acetyl Glutamyl Octapeptide-3) is a synthetic octapeptide analogue of the N-terminal sequence of SNAP-25, a protein integral to the SNARE complex that mediates synaptic vesicle fusion at the neuromuscular junction. As an extended variant of the well-studied Snap-7 (Argireline) sequence, Snap-8 has been developed as a cosmetic research compound with enhanced affinity for the SNARE complex binding site. It is supplied here as a lyophilised research compound for in vitro investigation of neuromuscular signalling and cosmetic peptide biology.
Snap-8 competitively inhibits SNARE complex formation by mimicking the N-terminal domain of SNAP-25, thereby interfering with the docking and fusion of acetylcholine-containing synaptic vesicles at the neuromuscular junction. This reduces acetylcholine exocytosis and attenuates the downstream muscle contraction signal. Compared to shorter analogues, Snap-8’s extended octapeptide sequence is hypothesised to confer greater binding affinity and selectivity for the SNARE complex, making it a refined tool for studying neuromodulatory peptide mechanisms in vitro.
