Bacteriostatic Water
Bacteriostatic Water
Bacteriostatic Water for Injection (BWFI) is a sterile, non-pyrogenic preparation of water for injection containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is the standard reconstitution vehicle for lyophilised research peptides and proteins, allowing multiple-use vials to remain sterile over extended periods. Unlike standard sterile water, the benzyl alcohol content inhibits bacterial growth, making BWFI suitable for repeated needle entry without contamination risk.
Research Applications
- Reconstitution of lyophilised research peptides and proteins
- Preparation of multi-use peptide stock solutions
- Vehicle control in in vitro and in vivo research protocols
- Stability and solubility studies for injectable research compounds
Usage Notes
Bacteriostatic Water is the preferred reconstitution solvent for most research peptides including GH-releasing peptides, GLP-1 analogues, and growth factors. For peptides with poor aqueous solubility, initial dissolution in 1% acetic acid followed by dilution with bacteriostatic water is recommended. Reconstituted solutions should be stored at 4°C and used within 28 days.
