AHK-Cu
AHK-Cu
AHK-Cu (Ala-His-Lys copper complex, hydrochloride salt) is a synthetic copper-binding tripeptide research compound supplied in its stable HCl salt form (CAS 682809-81-0). It is a structural analogue of GHK-Cu, differing in its N-terminal amino acid (alanine instead of glycine), which alters its copper-chelating geometry and biological activity profile. AHK-Cu has been investigated in preclinical research for its potential roles in tissue remodelling, wound healing, and extracellular matrix regulation.
Mechanism of Action
AHK-Cu chelates copper(II) ions via its histidine imidazole and terminal amine groups, forming a stable square-planar complex. Copper peptide complexes of this type have been shown in research models to modulate matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity, stimulate collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis, and exhibit antioxidant properties. The hydrochloride salt form provides enhanced aqueous solubility and stability compared to the free base, making it well-suited for in vitro research applications.
Research Applications
- Copper peptide biology and chelation studies
- Extracellular matrix remodelling research
- Wound healing and tissue repair modelling
- Collagen synthesis and MMP regulation studies
- Antioxidant and cytoprotective research
