AHK-Cu (Ala-His-Lys copper complex, hydrochloride salt) is a synthetic copper-binding tripeptide research compound supplied in its stable HCl salt form (CAS 682809-81-0). It is a structural analogue of GHK-Cu, differing in its N-terminal amino acid (alanine instead of glycine), which alters its copper-chelating geometry and biological activity profile. AHK-Cu has been investigated in preclinical research for its roles in extracellular matrix biology and copper-dependent signalling pathways.
AHK-Cu chelates copper(II) ions via its histidine imidazole and terminal amine groups, forming a stable square-planar complex. Copper peptide complexes of this type have been studied in preclinical models for their effects on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity, collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis, and antioxidant signalling. The hydrochloride salt form provides enhanced aqueous solubility and stability, making it well-suited for in vitro research applications.
